Which race is more challenging,Great Wall
of China Marathon or Roof of the World Marathon? (June
12,2024)
We are the
founder/organizer/race director of the Great Wall of China Marathon
(GWCM) and the Roof of the World Marathon (ROWM).
The Great Wall of China Marathon (GWCM) is the only marathon in
China that has never been canceled, even in the years 2020, 2021,
and 2022!
We host the Great Wall of China Marathon (GWCM) twice a year. One is
in the spring, always on May 1st, as the temperature rises
significantly after May 5th each year. The other is in the autumn,
always on the last Sunday of October. The spring marathon is
referred to as GWCM, for example, GWCM2024 or GWCM2025, marking the
24th Great Wall of China Marathon on May 1st, 2025. The autumn
marathon is denoted as GWCM2024-Autumn.
Combining the GWCM and GWCM-Autumn, we proudly announce that the
Great Wall of China Marathon 2024-Autumn will be the 29th edition of
the event, while the 24th Great Wall of China Marathon on May 1st,
2025, will be the 30th edition.
We take pride in welcoming runners from all over the world to the
Great Wall of China Marathon on May 1st and the Great Wall of China
Marathon-Autumn. These events attract elite runners of all ages, as
it is considered the most challenging marathon in China. On average,
most runners take 7 hours and 30 minutes to complete the 42K course,
with a time limit of 10 hours for all participants.
Having supported runners of all ages, we have seen participants as
old as 81 years old complete the marathon, while even a 3-year-old
child can finish the 5K race. An 8-year-old boy has successfully
completed the half marathon.
Yes, we offer a variety of races for participants worldwide to
choose from, including the 5K, 10K, Half Marathon, and Marathon,
whether you are a professional or a novice runner.

Ines from Austria. She completed the Great Wall of China Marathon
2023-Autumn in 5:53:55,the No.1, and the Roof of the World Marathon
2024 in 7:02:17,the No.1.

The Roof of the World Marathon always follows the Great Wall of
China Marathon on May 1st. Joelly ran a half marathon on May 1st,
2024, finishing in 2:28:30.,the No.1.She then flew from Beijing to
Lhasa, Tibet on May 2nd, 2024, and completed her first 10K at an
elevation of 4,444 meters/14,580 feet in about 1 hour and 10
minutes. On May 8, 2024, she successfully finished the 42K race at
the world's highest elevation marathon course, starting at 5213
meters/1,7103 feet, higher than the base camp of Mt. Everest.
In the history of Tibet, there has never been a marathon, and the
42K course is devoid of trees, resembling a climb to Mt. Everest.
The race takes place on the north slope of the Himalayan Mountain
Range, known as the Roof of the World, with severe conditions and
low oxygen levels.
